Ways To Deal With Pigeons On Beams

Some of the places where pigeons love to land are barn beams. Because they have smooth surfaces, the exact type that pigeons like, beams can be a major attraction for these birds. Pigeons on the beams can end up causing quite a lot of damage, as their droppings will accumulate rather quickly and in a short period of time. You will be able to fight them efficiently only if you understand which methods are the most efficient. If you have considered poisoning, you should know that you are on the wrong track. Often this method is illegal because the dead birds are a danger to any animal that eats them. Others will try trapping and this occasionally works, the problem comes when releasing them because it's a rare instance when you can get them far enough away that they won't find their way ‘home.'

Pigeons on the beams can be a source of disease for other animals; their droppings can soil hay or grain. Most of the diseases spread by pigeons are taken from their droppings, as a lot of spores are also released with the feces, into the air. Once inhaled, these germs can lead to the appearance of the disease they cause in humans and other animals. If you can close the barn off so they can't get in, this is the simplest method. Often people have many areas of the barn that let the birds in so this won't work. If that's the case then employing shock track or needle strips to the beams will do the trick.
